I thought I'd start this page to keep track of the progress of my tank and to provide quick links to some reefkeeping sites.
Right now the tank is three anda half years old. The three fish inhabitants are three of the first fish I put in.
They are: Paraglyphidodon oxyodon Blue Velvet Damsel
Two Chrysiptera parasema Yellow Tail Damsels
There are a few invertibrates: Protoreaster nodosus Chocolate Chip Star
Eight Blue Legged Hermits
All kinds of tiny tube worms, feather dusters, and small snails. They might end up being pests, but I like them for now.
I have been adding live rock at the rate of about 5 lbs. every few months, and it is going to take forever to get the 150 lbs. I'm shooting for.
I'm also planning to upgrade my lighting, from two trashy looking fixtures resting on wire on the top of the tank,to a Satellite power compact 4*65W. I keep going back on forth, but I think I should just bite the bullet and go for it. There is still that part of me that doesn't want to lay out that kind of cash, but if that's the case, I need to find a new hobby!
The other thing that has been bothering me lately is the crappy air pump that runs the protein skimmer. The pump is resting on a plate on the lights. It is ugly, noisy, and dangerous. What am I supposed to do with it? I guess I should have a hood, but I think they are tacky (as if having stuff piled on top of the tank isn't?) Whatever.
I think I may have a serial killer in the tank. I bought a Peppermint Shrimp about three nomths ago and then three weeks later he just disappeared, and four of my hermits have died/disappeared.
I have seen small (1-2") mysterious creature(s) on the live rock and burrowing under the rocks. They move very quickly. I am wondering if I have some sort of Manits shrimp. I'm going to try to keep my eyes open.
